Exploration at Wozi Niobium launched

Australia-based exploration firm Kula Gold Limited has commenced field activities at its Wozi Niobium Project in Malawi, as part of a strategic partnership with Akatswiri Mineral Resources, a leading local mining company headed by Group Chairman Hilton Banda.

According to a statement released by Kula Gold, its exploration team arrived on-site this week to begin a comprehensive field programme aimed at verifying historic trenching results for niobium and tantalum and expanding the sampling area to determine the project’s full potential.

The programme includes field mapping, rock-chip and soil sampling, and will pave the way for a maiden drilling campaign scheduled for the December 2025 quarter. The company also revealed that it is assessing additional tenement areas around the project site.

Kula Gold’s Managing Director, Ric Dawson, expressed optimism about the project’s potential.

“Renewed interest in critical minerals and Wozi’s proximity to other large niobium and rare earth projects in Malawi has encouraged Kula to proceed,” said Dawson.

“Wozi presents a high-impact, low-cost opportunity to add value to our portfolio, while we continue advancing our flagship Mt Palmer Gold Project.”

Dawson further stated that the collaboration with Akatswiri Mineral Resources underscores the importance of local partnerships in navigating Malawi’s mineral landscape.

Akatswiri Mineral Resources, a key player in Malawi’s extractives sector, is providing local expertise and operational support.

Its Group Chairman, Hilton Banda, has been instrumental in facilitating the project’s rollout, reinforcing the company’s commitment to unlocking the country’s critical mineral potential.

Key Highlights:

Wozi Niobium/Tantalum Project exploration begins in Malawi in partnership with Akatswiri Mineral Resources.

Activities include trench resampling, field mapping, and expanded soil and rock-chip sampling.

Maiden drilling planned for December 2025 quarter.

Historic trench results to be validated—no prior exploration drilling at the site.

Project benefits from existing road infrastructure, enabling low-cost logistics.

Wozi complements Kula’s flagship Mt Palmer Gold Project in Western Australia.

As the world accelerates the transition to green technologies, niobium and tantalum—used in aerospace, electronics, and clean energy—are emerging as essential inputs. Kula Gold’s exploration in Malawi signals increasing global attention on Africa’s critical mineral reserves, and the Wozi Project stands to be a promising contributor in that space.
