Lilongwe District Council Emphasizes Accuracy in Data Collection
Willard Chirwa, the Director of Planning and Development for the Lilongwe District Council, has emphasized the importance of accurate data collection for the Unified Beneficiary Registry (UBR) to enumerators in the district. Speaking during a five-day Training of Trainers event for the district training team and Social Support Committee in Lilongwe, Chirwa highlighted the significance of ensuring that information collected is precise. "Sometimes people in rural areas lose their opportunity because of incorrect information collected during such exercises. Let us be serious and collect the needed information," - said Chirwa. Chirwa stressed the importance of accurate data collection for the Unified Beneficiary Registry (UBR) to ensure that individuals are not deprived of opportunities due to inaccuracies. Sarah Chimodzi, the Principal Social Welfare Officer at Lilongwe District Council, emphasized the necessity of professionalism among enumerators, stating, "We are expecting enumerators to give us correct data that will represent the real status of households on the ground so that those who deserve to be in certain programs should be in such programs." John Funny Mwale, Principal Economist in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, expressed gratitude to Lilongwe District Council for recruiting UBR enumerators, noting that the exercise is crucial in understanding the socio-economic status of the district's residents. Supervisor Mayamiko Namaleu pledged to ensure accuracy in data collection, stating, "I will make sure that my team of enumerators collects accurate data and submits it on time." Lilongwe District Council has recruited 460 enumerators tasked with reaching out to 392,733 households. The enumeration process is expected to span 30 to 42 days across all 23 traditional authorities in the district. Similar exercises are also planned for Blantyre, Kasungu, and Rumphi.
