Secretary for Information and Digitalisation, Baldwin Chiyamwaka, has described the National Data Centre as a cornerstone in the country's digital transformation journey.
During his familiarization tour of the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation’s Department of E-Government on Tuesday, Chiyamwaka emphasized the critical role the infrastructure will play in storing and safeguarding government data.
"This is now a National Data Centre, where all government ministries, departments, and agencies will store their data. It is an essential facility," he stated, highlighting its significance.
Chiyamwaka also noted the Data Centre's sustainable power design, which includes fuel tanks, generators, and solar panels for additional power.
Team leader for the Data Centre Project, Praveen Sridharla, reported that the project's progress is currently at 60 percent, with the arrival of containers from Nakara, India, expected by the end of June to complete the project.
The project, which began in July last year, is slated for completion by August 20 this year.
