The minister of agriculture, Sam Kawale, says he is impressed with the advancement of the Affordable Inputs Program's (AIP) in the Chiradzulu district, where the majority of the program's beneficiaries have been able to purchase fertilizer. Kawale, made the comments on tuesday, January 9, 2024, while visiting the Chiradzulu Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund depot to observe how the sale of inexpensive inputs is proceeding prior to visiting the ADMARC depot, where he saw how the district's second phase of selling maize to alleviate hunger had begun. According to data from the Chiradzulu district, 85% of the 1900 farmers have already benefited from the Affordable Input program. According to Kawale, government is working to make sure that people have access to reasonably priced agricultural supplies, , and it is exciting seeing depots well stocked with fertilizer available for purchase. He also stated that he anticipates many farmers to have a bumper crop, claiming that all of the problems previously plagued AIP have been resolved. Commenting on the development, McTimes Malowa, the Member of Parliament for the Chiradzulu Central Constituency, stated that of the 1900 AIP beneficiaries in the area, 85% had access to their fertilizer. He also expressed optimism that the remaining 15% would purchase fertilizer because the depots are fully stocked. "In order to ensure that every village has an adequate number of beneficiaries, we urge the government to consider registering AIP beneficiaries based on Village Head Areas going forward instead of Group Village Heads," he stated. Group Village Head Mbalame praised the government in his words for making sure that the people in his region had access to reasonably priced farm inputs. He also mentioned that in order to guarantee complete food security in the area, the government ought to expand the number of beneficiaries in the upcoming planting season.
