Written by Bester KayayeThe International Development Association (IDA) Board has approved an additional K61.28 billion grant for Malawi's Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) Project.
In correspondence addressed to Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda, IDA Executive Director Floribert Ngaruko explained that this supplementary funding aims to enhance the institutional performance of Local Authorities, improve their responsiveness to citizens, and better manage resources for service delivery.
Ngaruko further mentioned that the funds will cover a financing shortfall caused by the activation of a Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC) in December 2022, without introducing any new activities.
In a statement to local media, Chithyola Banda highlighted that this additional funding reflects the high level of confidence and trust that donors have in Malawi.
GESD objective is to strengthen Local Authorities’ institutional performance, responsiveness to citizens, and management of resources for public service delivery.
