FDH BANK LAUNCHES MALAWI’S INAUGURAL ISLAMIC BANKING SOLUTION
FDH Bank plc has etched its name in Malawi’s financial history books by introducing the pioneering FDH Salama Banking solution, marking a significant leap as the country's first Islamic banking facility. Guided by the principles of Sharia law, this innovative banking model prioritizes profit and loss sharing while eschewing interest payments. "Nothing thrills us more than pioneering this initiative," declared FDH Bank's Managing Director, Noel Mkulichi, underscoring the strategic importance of FDH Salama Banking in the bank’s growth trajectory. "Our research and consultations revealed a neglected segment within the banking sphere. Thus, we are taking this bold stride to serve this marginalized community." Mkulichi emphasized the inclusivity of FDH Salama Banking, stating, "This isn't exclusively for Muslims; it's for anyone seeking a banking alternative." He also affirmed the bank's commitment to raising awareness about Islamic banking principles, vowing collaboration with their advisory board to ensure adherence to Sharia laws in all offerings. Sheikh Ibrahim Lethome Asmani, Chairman of the Sharia Advisory Council of FDH Salama Banking, stressed the significance of Shari’ah compliance. "Seamless transition from conventional to Islamic banking is imperative," he emphasized, highlighting the need for comprehensive community education and regular Sharia compliance audits. Osman Karim, representing the Qadria Muslim Association of Malawi, hailed FDH Bank’s initiative, pledging support for FDH Salama Banking. "We celebrate FDH Bank’s progressive step," he commended, expressing the association’s commitment to fostering collaboration for the community's benefit. Currently, FDH Salama Banking focuses on deposit accounts, with plans for portfolio expansion. The service will operate in Limbe, Lilongwe's City Center, and Mangochi, positioning itself as a Sharia-compliant banking institution.
