EmmTech Enterprises Urges Support for Climate Solutions
Emmanuel Chikwapula, the managing director of EmmTech Enterprises, has emphasized the critical need for government and stakeholders to rally behind initiatives that offer solutions to pressing issues, particularly climate change. In an interview with Corporate Link Africa, Chikwapula highlighted the obstacles faced by innovative youths, urging for greater support rather than hindrance from authorities. Chikwapula remarked, "There are numerous young individuals with groundbreaking ideas, like the inventor who devised radio and electricity solutions, only to be stifled under the pretext of pursuing formal education. We must empower our youth economically to unleash their potential and tackle unemployment." He underscored his commitment to transforming plastics into sustainable building materials, envisioning a venture capable of employing over 500 youths annually. "Our aim is to create opportunities that not only address environmental concerns but also contribute to economic growth," Chikwapula added. Acknowledging the challenges faced by aspiring entrepreneurs, Reynolds Maida, the finance manager of EmmTech Enterprises, commended the recent surge in support from various companies and organizations, including pledges from entities like GIZ. Maida expressed gratitude for the financial assistance received, particularly a MK15 million grant from waste advisers, which will facilitate the acquisition of machinery for expanded production. "Malawi possesses untapped potential, particularly among its youth, to reduce reliance on imports and foster self-sufficiency," Maida asserted. He lamented the prevalent practice of importing basic commodities like toothpicks, stressing the importance of nurturing local industries. "We have the resources to manufacture these items domestically, but without adequate support, the journey from grassroots initiatives to established enterprises is arduous," Maida remarked. EmmTech Enterprises specializes in converting waste plastics into an array of sustainable construction materials, including bricks, blocks, and tiles. With sufficient backing, the company aims to diversify its offerings to include water pumps made from recycled plastics and organic waste-derived fertilizers, thereby contributing to agricultural productivity and food security.
